Pillow--a neglected health killer (Adapted from October 23, 2005: Reference News.)
American Life Science Network said a vital health undermining ecosystem is located in our pillows. They said as a complete ecosystem, the pillow contains lots of insects and other virulent epiphytes. According to their investigations, there are at least 1 million epiphyte spores in a pillow. In addition, they found lots of dust mites in pillows and other bed appliances.
Dust mite is a kind of animalcule, very small like spider, relaxing on our skin scraps. The Principal of this Research Project Mr. Ashley Wood from the University of Manchester said pillows are seedbeds for dust mites living on epiphytes. Another saying said dejections of dust mites and other human skin scraps are their (epiphytes) primary source of food. Anyway, there is a micro ecosystem in our pillows. Ashley coupled with his colleagues made a test. They selected some pillows made of feathers and human synthetic fibre as samples (used time: 1.5-20 years) and began their experiments.
At last, they found bend mildew is the most common epiphyte in the pillow, also the most infected epiphyte. In fact, bend mildew is also one of the most infected epiphytes causing the death of leukaemia patients and bone marrow transfer patients. The epiphyte also could pick up the degradation of asthma. They found more epiphytes in pillows made of synthetic fibre than pillows made of other materials. It’s not the first investigation addressing such a conclusion. National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) addressed a similar in one of its investigation reports in 2000 that over 22 million Chinese families' beds are dense areas of dust mites, possible to cause the disease of asthma. That’s why the hospital covers a plastic film on their pillows. However, after the patients come back home, usually their immunity systems are not very strong to resist the epiphytes in their old pillows. NIEHS suggested patients to change their bed articles to some anti-epiphyte ones. They should clean their bed articles every week. Also they should periodically dedust and clean and disinfect their carpets with steam.
Tea Fragrant Pillow unique modern techniques coupled with traditional prescription and modern science & technology, emphasizes the traditional Chinese medical concept of keeping our heads cool and feet warm at all times.
The height of the pillow is specially designed based upon ergonomics, with moderate filling. The pillow core is filled with high mountainous tea-leaves, together with various natural herbs. The filling’s strong fragrance is concentrated about one foot in length around the pillow, providing natural aromatherapy and thereby brings about a relaxing mind and a sound sleep.
The Shennong Classic of Meteria Medica (or Shennong Bencao Jing) of the Warring States Period recorded shennong (a physician) having tasted hundreds of herbs finally found tea to be able to detox 72 toxins absorbed into his body a day.
The Tang-Song Dynasty also saw the prosperity and splendor of Chinese tea drinking culture. With the further development of modern science and technology, its medical function becomes more widely known. Lots of clinical experiences have lighted this point.
The Tang Dynasty Famous Medical Researcher -Sun Simiao wrote in ‘Precious Essential Prescriptions’ , tea pillow improves vision, purifies the heart, calm nerves and aids in blood circulation. According to traditional Chinese medical theory, a right blend of herbs as the pillow core, promotes health and thereby disease prevention, and then a tea pillow comes out. Based on traditional Chinese medical
Fragrant Tea Pillow’s makeup:
Pillow core is filled with Fujian high mountain newly-picked tea and natural herbs.
These leaves are enclosed within DuPont Tyvek Protective Covers, which are made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) in a proprietary manufacturing process that creates a unique balance of properties that are ideal for a protective cover.
Protective covers manufactured with 100% DuPont™ Tyvek® provide superior protection from harmful environmental conditions, are lightweight and exceptionally breathable, and strong, durable and long lasting.
One of the most common problems with traditional covers is mildew. Most other covers do not allow condensation or heat to escape. Covers made of Tyvek® protective fabric have microscopic pores that allow moisture to escape.
The logical pillow height:
According to specialists’ research, an excessive-high or low pillow isn’t good for health. An excessive-high pillow strains the user’s neck vertebra and muscles at the shoulder, back and arms. On the other hand, an excessive-low pillow disrupts blood flows near our head. Generally speaking, patients having high blood pressure or heart related problems should use a slightly higher pillow. The norm for all others is 15cm in pillow height.
Pillow’s logical rigidity:
In general, a slightly hard pillow is good for health, but not excessive. Excessively hard pillows brings about unnecessary pressures and anxiety on users. Excessively-soft pillow does not produce an ideal pillow height.
Pillow’s logical length:
It’s desired length should be that of a user’s shoulder. Small pillows deprive the user a sense of security and results in insomnia.
